Amrum is a beautiful island in the North Sea. It is known for its white dunes, long beaches and the peace and seclusion. In summer the island is a popular vacation destination for families. It was a strangely low vacation.

My son breaks his arm on the very first day and I hear it crack. 17 hours later I learn that one of my friends is dying with a brain tumor.

What had happened and what was to come circled through my head. In addition, there were the dunes, the beaches, the relations and how fast things change and where one stands in life.
The joint family vacation didn't turn out to be exactly what we had hoped for (although I can really recommend Amrum to anyone). I drove around the island alone, listening to Dodheimsgard's "Black Medium Current" and lots of ambient (love Toán). I drank lethargic coffees and took some field recordings and photos off the cuff.

The album "Amrum" captures this time and thoughts. Things spread out, are slow in change and then end. Abstract, flowing, in my form.

My friend died on September 14, 2023, and even if he preferred to listen to Japanese metal, this is for him.

Amrum ist eine wunderschöne Insel in der Nordsee. Sie ist bekannt für ihre weißen Dünen, langen Strände und die Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit. Im Sommer ist die Insel ein beliebtes Urlaubsziel für Familien. Es war ein seltsam tiefer Urlaub.

Um Viertel nach 8 balancierte mein Sohn über einen Zaun bei den Dünen auf Amrum. Er kann das normalerweise. Doch als er versuchte, auf den nächsthöheren Zaun zu klettern, fiel er herunter und brach sich den Arm. Ich hörte es knacken. Der Hubschrauber brachte uns drei Stunden später nach Heide in die Kinderchirurgie. Um 2 Uhr morgens bekam er einen Gips und ich die Nachricht, dass sonst alles in Ordnung war. Nach 12 weiteren Stunden Zug- und Fährenfahrt waren wir wieder auf Amrum bei dem Rest meiner Familie. Ich fiel in das müde Bett. Als ich aufwachte, bekam ich jedoch einen Anruf: Einer meiner besten Freunde lag im Sterben und hatte wohl nur noch ein paar Wochen. Damit hatte ich eigentlich nicht gerechnet. Oder Besseres erhofft.

Das Geschehene und das Kommende kreisten durch den Kopf. Dazu kamen die Dünen, die Strände, die Relationen und wie schnell sich Dinge ändern und wo man im Leben steht.

In den nächsten Tagen teilten wir uns auf. Jemand von uns beiden war immer bei den Kindern, während der/die andere Radfahren oder Spazieren ging. Der gemeinsame Familienurlaub wurde nicht genau das, was wir uns erhofft hatten (wobei ich Amrum wirklich jedem empfehlen kann). Ich fuhr allein über die Insel, hörte Dodheimsgards "Black Medium Current" und viel Ambient (love Toán). Ich trank lethargische Kaffees und nahm ein paar Field Recordings und Fotos aus dem Handgelenk auf.

Das Album "Amrum" hält diese Zeit und Gedanken fest. Die Dinge breiten sich aus, sind langsam im Wechsel und enden dann. Abstrakt, fließend, in meiner Form.

Mein Freund starb am 14. September 2023, und auch wenn er lieber japanischen Metal gehört hat, ist das hier für ihn.
